Nurses

Our specially trained staff of Pediatric Registered Nurses are available throughout the day to answer your questions. If the nurse is unable to answer your question, they will consult with your physician or one of their colleagues, and the appropriate staff member will get back to you with an answer.

The nurses are often flooded with calls from concerned parents. If your call is an emergency, alert our staff when you first call, so that we may handle your call properly. If you should reach the voicemail, please leave a message. Messages left on the nurses urgent line are checked hourly (often times they are checked even more frequently), and one of our nurses will get back to you promptly. Messages left on the nurses non-urgent line (ie: potty training issues, behavioral issues) are checked occasionally throughout the day, but you may not hear back for 24 hours.

Travel Immunization Visits

The nurses, in conjunction with their secretary, are responsible for travel visits. It is very important that you inform the nurses of your intended trip at least one month ahead of time. This will give them time to retrieve the necessary data on any required travel immunizations. To set up an appointment, you must speak with one of the nurses and inform them of your exact destinations, length of visit, and departure date. The nurses' secretary will then call you to set up an appointment. If you need to obtain travel immunizations urgently, the travel clinics at Lawrence Memorial Hospital or Passport Health may be able to help. Please contact them to inquire about their services, hours, or payment and billing options.

Prescription Refills

Upon calling the main number, you can ask a staff member to connect you with the pharmacy line for prescription refills. In your message, please be sure to include: patient's name, date of birth, person requesting the refill, name of medication being requested, dosage, pharmacy name and address, and number at which you may be contacted in case of questions or problems. Please note that while most scripts may be faxed directly to the pharmacy, controlled substances (ie: Ritalin, Concerta) must be picked up in the office (& a proper ID must be shown). Also, please allow 24 hours for scripts to be completed and ready for pick up.

Health Forms

Health forms are provided at each physical examination (ages 3 and up).  Please keep the original and distribute copies to schools or camps. If you find yourself in need of a health form in between physicals, you may be subject to a $5 processing fee. During the summer months, there is a high volume of college and health forms. Please be patient - at this time, it can take up to 7-10 days for a form to be completed. For this process to be as efficient as possible, make sure that you have filled out all information that you can (ie: name, date of birth, etc.) before handing it in to the nurses for completion.
